For Nothing Can Hinder The Lord

1 Samuel 14:6

Job 42:2

Nothing can hinder the Lord. Nothing in heaven nor on earth.

God is capable of all things. I truly believe this: that God has the power - the ability - to do all things. He can raise the dead to life, make the blind see and the paralysed walk. He can.

Which is equally a comforting statement as it is a troubling one. He can. That is a fact that has been true and will remain true for eternity. He can do all things.

Yet he doesn’t…

… a very tough statement to swallow, and one that I think will not be fully answered until the final day when we see him face to face (at which time I think seeing Him in glory will over shadow the questions we were meaning to ask). The question of “If He is able then why doesn’t He?” Is something that can cause faith to crumble, people to walk away and shake or haunt even those we think are very stable.

But know this: He Can. Our God is powerful and mighty and stronger than anything we will ever see, feel or can imagine. He can. And thankfully often He IS willing.

For nothing can hinder the Lord.

I could write out my top 10 thoughts as to why God doesn’t always answer prayer, but I don’t think you need to hear that today*. But I do believe we need a reminder that He CAN do it. The tension that this fact, this unwavering truth, raises is a part of what faith is. The tensions of faith are what make it beautiful… are what make faith not just an easy one day decision but a lifetime of waking up and saying yes to the Lord.

I think God wants us today to know this - that He can. He IS able.

And the only answer I can give to the hundreds of questions that produces is this: He IS GOOD; this I know to be true - just as true as the sun will rise tomorrow.

He is able.
